An enduring institution dedicated to the care of animals, Seattle Humane sought to expand its nearly 50-year-old Bellevue facility to accommodate the growing demands for services from across the region. The Watershed Company helped permit and design a new 54,000-square foot facility that provides a relaxing, natural space for visiting people and pets, while mitigating impacts to the nearby natural stream and steep slope buffers. The landscape and exterior design includes removing invasive species, restoration with native vegetation, installing large woody debris for habitat, and new forested trails and overlooks that improve accessibility and offer a unique real-world setting for training adoptable dogs. With minimal disruption to ongoing business, construction is currently underway and is due to be completed in 2018.
