Jenkins creek park master plan

Owner

City of Covington

Location

Covington, Washington

Jenkins Creek Park is a 22-acre suburban city park that comprises a landscape of wetlands, streams, and steep slopes. The Watershed Company developed a comprehensive master plan that outlines a cost-effective and attainable long-term vision for the park.

As part of the master plan development process, The Watershed Company conducted an outreach campaign to engage the public and stakeholders about their history, knowledge, and experiences with the park. Design objectives that emerged are firmly rooted in the community’s vision.

The completed master plan mixes open space with immersive nature-based experiences, granting visitors enjoyment of the park’s natural features. Open spaces were minimally programmed to be flexible, allowing for various passive recreation opportunities and creative use of space for large and small groups. The plan employs CPTED (crime prevention through environmental design) strategies, improves existing trails, accommodates future trail connections, and reestablishes natural areas, including a south sound prairie with cultural significance.
