Biologists from The Watershed Company provided sensitive areas analysis for a proposed 8.6 mile long mountain bike trail ascending Mount Washington in Iron Horse State Park. Construction of new trail segments is being combined with the conversion of decommissioned logging roads to complete the trail length. Work included wetland and stream delineation, a full habitat assessment, and permitting assistance. Preparation of a SEPA checklist and other environmental permit support activities were included.
A Wildlife Habitat Assessment provided a detailed description of habitat in the study area. The unique mix of lowland and montane mixed mature forest and riparian vegetation necessitated an in-depth evaluation of the potential impacts, both direct and indirect/cumulative, of actions proposed for the site. Occurrence of species of local significance was fully explored and reported. A discussion of mitigation sequencing and opportunities for habitat improvement was also provided in the report.
