A neighborhood City of Shoreline Park troubled by flooding and deteriorating water quality will be redesigned to improve storm water storage and enhance wetlands while improving visitor experiences and offering environmental education opportunities. The Watershed Company provided a feasibility study and conceptual redesign plan for the 3-acre Meridian Park. Work included a wetland delineation, hydraulic modeling for three alternatives, development of several park amenity options, cost estimates, and a resident survey. One of the most exciting options developed by the project team was a LID stormwater retrofit to an existing ditch using "street side rain gardens". Parks Board unanimously approved the preferred design alternative. Final design is anticipated to begin in late 2010.
