Description

The Watershed Company was hired as a sub-consultant to identify and characterize wetlands in the African island nation of Mauritius in 2008. The Mauritian Ministry of the Environment is in the process of developing a regulatory framework with the expressed intention of protecting wetlands in the face of a fast-developing tourism industry. Staff from The Watershed Company identified, delineated, and mapped wetlands throughout the country and produced a detailed report and map set fully depicting these sensitive areas. A number of the wetlands will subsequently be proposed for international recognition and protection under the RAMSAR Convention. The Watershed Company trained Mauritian government staff and team members in delineation methodologies for continuing work.
