The Watershed Company provided detail design and oversaw the construction of 65 acres of wetland mitigation and stream enhancement for the development of the Pierce County municipal solid waste landfill. The mitigation site includes wetland creation and enhancement, buffer enhancement, and stream channel restoration, as well as preserved areas of upland forest, forested wetland, and scrub-shrub wetland. Wetlands were created by re-grading earth to change the flow direction of surface water and saturation patterns thus achieving wetland hydrology. Ten years of performance monitoring is underway. Five years following construction, the site exceeded key performance standards for amphibian habitat, vegetation survival, and plant density.
