Description

A 100-acre tract of former orchard land, which includes a mile of Wenatchee River waterfront, is being restored to a nature reserve and family estate by a multidisciplinary team from The Watershed Company. This site was identified as a high priority for fish and wildlife habitat enhancements by the Chelan County Department of Natural Resources. The property owner's private wildlife sanctuary will include diversion of the Wenatchee River side channel and agricultural ditch into a system of ponds, streams and backwaters to create refuge for fish and animals, enhancement of wetlands, and an extensive re-vegetation with native species. In addition to the natural areas, landscape architects from The Watershed Company are working to blend a large formal estate and outbuildings into the natural setting. The project is in the final design stage, with construction anticipated to begin in late summer 2010.
