Description

Previously a channelized and weed-choked urban stream, Peters Creek has been completely restored using a design by The Watershed Company. Enhancements include widened floodplain and back channel areas, habitat pools with log structures, gravel supplementation at riffles, 100% native upland and wetland planting, and a new box culvert. The $1.1 million comprehensive restoration project, constructed in 2003, improves flood conveyance, sediment storage, fish passage, and habitat conditions for aquatic and terrestrial wildlife.

The Watershed Company prepared the required Biological Evaluation for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to conduct Endangered Species Act consultation and permitted the entire project. We oversaw construction and have provided adaptive management to control invasive weeds. We will continue to conduct performance monitoring of the restoration area until 2010.
