Description
The Watershed Company completed engineering design, permitting and construction management on a stream relocation and restoration for the 185-acre Beebe Springs property on the Columbia River near Chelan. Work, completed in the fall of 2006, relocated a straight agricultural ditch into a natural 1,800-foot meandering path with habitat features and native plants, enhancing spawning opportunities for Columbia River salmonids. The project is to be the focal point of a new park along the Columbia River so aesthetics were critical as was habitat.
The Watershed Company completed construction documents and construction oversight for the project as well as all state and federal permitting, including the required Biological Evaluation for Endangered Species Act compliance. Work included cooperation with the Chelan Sportsman’s Club, an active group of stakeholders, whose approval and support was critical to project success. The Washington Salmon Recovery Funding Board provided major funding with demands for project excellence from the region’s technical committee.Construction of the stream restoration is complete.
