Beebe Springs Stream Enhancement
Chelan, Washington

Beebe Springs Creek, a spring-fed tributary to the Upper Columbia River, was restored with a design by The Watershed Company. Working for the Washington State Salmon Recovery Funding Board, Chelan Sportsmen, and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, Watershed Company biologists conducted a detailed stream habitat survey to record pre-construction, baseline information on the 800-foot-long creek. The new 1,800-foot channel design included a complete geomorphological report, as well as geotechnical, cultural resource, and topographical surveys. The goal of the project was to construct a new, sinuous channel with a floodplain and hyporheic zone in a way that maximizes quality spawning and rearing opportunities available to salmonids. The additional wetland and riparian areas will also help protect a unique coldwater resource and enhance shoreline habitat conditions, as well as benefit terrestrial wildlife and amphibian species. The Watershed Company oversaw project construction. This restoration will be the focal point of a new park at the site.
