Premera Blue Cross Campus Sustainable Landscape & Interpretive Plan

Premera Blue Cross (https://www.premera.com/)
Mountlake Terrace, WA

An upgrade and redesign of a corporate campus landscape with raingardens, a pedestrian bridge, parking lot, and interpretive signs creates more functional and aesthetic spaces in tune with Premera‚Äôs goals for sustainability. The design enabled the retention of numerous mature trees during the implementation of improvements on the 25-acre Premera Blue Cross campus, which is bordered by Hall Creek and its associated wetlands. Invasive species and thirsty ornamentals were removed and replaced with drought-tolerant and native plants. Raingardens enabled stormwater to be handled on-site in landscaped areas. The project required additional permitting and mitigation planting to offset stream buffer impacts due to bridge construction.

In addition, Watershed scientists and designers created an interpretive and educational plan with six interpretive signs describing the benefits of environmentally friendly stormwater management solutions.
