Whispering Willow Park and Lyon Creek Mitigation

City of Lake Forest Park, WA

The City of Lake Forest Park hired The Watershed Company to design and permit a newly acquired property for passive recreation, habitat improvement, natural drainage restoration, and new linkages between neighborhoods and the Town Center. Planning and landscape design for this public park focused on the balance between restoration and recreation with over two-thirds of the park comprised of a seasonally flooded, protected wetland. The park is also flanked by Lyon Creek. Site design features include a natural picnic area, raised boardwalk, parking, and diverse native and wetland plantings. In collaboration with the City, Davido Consulting Group, and local citizens, the firm will take a park concept and citizen wish list through permitting and construction to make it a reality.

Initial renderings by The Watershed Company were used to engage the public in the design process.

A natural play picnic area is proposed using natural logs and boulders.

The micro-topography and hydrology on site guided a complex planting plan.

The undeveloped property is encumbered by a wetland and Lyon Creek.
