Consistent with the private school’s core message of ecological sustainability, The Watershed Company helped envision a new environmentally-themed playground to replace their aging play equipment. The new play area was conceived with four main areas, each with their own theme relative to specific age groups. The entire play areas is adjacent to a natural stream and wetland complex. Landscape Architects envisioned a "waterworks" area configured to replicate the living stream, complete with recirculating water captured from nearby roofs, natural boulders, movable cobbles and woody debris. Other areas of the playground featured a climbing wall, multi-level sandbox with moveable imagination foam blocks, seat walls that can be custom decorated by the children, a quiet area with benches and thoughtfully selected play equipment. The final touch was an ADA accessible, pervious pathway to tie all of the areas together, complete with a bridge over a working rain garden.
