Bremerton’s Jarstad Park will be renovated with recreational and LID improvements and will serve as the gateway to a 6+ mile network of trails through some of the best-preserved forest on the Peninsula. The Watershed Company’s new master plan concept provides more recreational opportunities while preserving historical elements and reducing stormwater runoff into Gorst Creek. Two new picnic shelters will have stormwater-friendly green roofs. The original WPA-era cook house will remain, its usable area expanded by a new paved plaza area. An existing Art-Deco style waterworks building has the potential to be adapted into a Trails Center or restrooms. Two volleyball courts and horseshoe pits will be added. A parking area will be formalized by expanding the existing roadway; runoff will drain into a water-cleansing rain garden.
