Description

A young family needed to upgrade their back yard from a lawn-only monoculture into a usable outdoor space for play, dining and gardening. The tight quarters and modern-themed home proved to be an exciting challenge. Three design concepts were generated and presented to the couple. The selected design includes three stone slabs inviting visitors up to an angled, stone patio complete with built-in stone benches and outdoor fireplace. A central play-lawn space is surrounded by a vegetable garden and plantings carefully selected for privacy as well as texture and color. A dry-laid stone wall will allow the play lawn to remain level and help keep toys in check.
